Thread: Any cheap (<=$10) seedboxes out there that allow HTTP downloads?

  1. #1
Most of the cheap seedbox's pages I've come across so far while browsing this forum mention FTP downloads but nothing about HTTP. Also, some providers limit the maximum number of simultaneous HTTP connections.

So basically looking for <=$10 seedboxes that:
    - supports downloading over HTTP
    - allows atleast 5 simultaneous connections from the same IP (for segmented downloads)
    - has a timeout period > 60mins (optional, but very useful as I'm tired of my seedbox timing out every 20 mins, causing the rest of the download queue to fail)

    Thanks!

Get a NAS with bittorent download support. Seedbox is overkill if you are not an uploader.

The problem is, my ISP throttles P2P.

You'll need a box running a BT client which also supports wget.
If I'm correct, TFlux allowed that, so look for boxes running it.

Did you try uTorrent in uTP-only mode?

    @Cabalo:

I'm currently on a Tf box and they limit the number of connections to 3 per IP and the login timesout around 20minutes. I'm not sure if this is a server-specific setting or a Tf default. I'd like to try another Tf box but not many providers offer a trial period..

Not yet, but will run it for a couple of days and let you know. Unfortunately, my ISP is cancelling the unlimited plan I'm on (because ironically, they're unable to manage traffic-shaping.. ) so I can't download from home as much as I want to, which means I need to get most of my stuff from uni.

So, still looking for cheap seedboxes or bittorrent proxies. Surprised that no one so far is using any...

Ours those have those nasty timeouts, and allow more than 3 HTTP connections simultaneously from single IP rTorrent+ruTorrent wrapped to a nice GUI.
    Just a FYI

http://PulsedMedia.com for more info (oh and starts at just 5.95€ a month too)

My rapidpeer seedbox has a rutorrent tab with all my download in HTTP links.

My xirvik seedbox had a ajax based filebrowser so you culd get the http links that way too.

to answer you question some of the better providers have this feature but make sure first before you order. it should be listed on their site as a feature

By all means it's not guaranteed that everyone will mention that kind of feature in their marketing. Especially when http downloads is such a basic feature there's no reason not to allow them etc.
Ought to ask if it's available if unsure
