    Dry

I overvolted my HIS Radeon 5850 to 1.15v and hit 875/1335mhz with 3Dmark Vantage running stable @ around 88C and 40% fan.

Then I pushed it a bit more today, got to 1.2v and 915/1355mhz running mostly stable, so I decided to fire up the crysis benchmark.

Poof. Screen goes blank 30 secs into the benchmark, monitor read "DVI no input signal".

Turned off comp, turned it back on. Still no video I took out the 5850, and popped my old 7900GS back in, boom, video feed.

So what should I do? This is my first time murdering a piece of hardware, so I'm unsure of my options.

    Advice would be appreciated thanks

mmmm Don't do it again, Lesson learnt, learn by mistake etc, and if you are thinking of killing anything else, please give me your system as its faster than mine, I'm willing to do a swap.

I assume the crying is over.

If it is in fact dead, you don't really have any "options" in the traditional sense.
Prayer doesn't work ( because Jeebus hates ATI) and your chances of finding and repairing the fried component(s) are basically zero.

Maybe you can con HIS into warrantying the card.

Well, I just got a $800 bonus at the end of my work term, so the crying is over.

I just don't understand why the card died; I set the fan to 70% speed and the temperature with the 915/1355mhz OC was only around 83C.

Did the voltage kill the card? But the 5850 is known to handle more than 1.25V, so I guess I just got a shitty OC card

In any case, I'm debating between getting a 5870 or 2 x 5770. They work out to be roughly the same price.

    Oh. Wow. My. Mind.

    That bake method TOTALLY worked.

I still can't believe it. Card running @ stock settings 30% fan at 74C LOAD, lower temps before it was broken!

Thanks, you guys just saved me $300
