    1. More like a 99% guarantee. That's what they advertise their completion to be, 99%
But personally, I'd be happy enough if every single file from Astraweb needed fills before it even could be repaired, because I set up my newsreaders that way: with backup servers to fill in all the missing parts.

    2. When you combine several block accounts from different providers, you don't need to use each one to its "full potential" because whatever one server lacks, the other fills in. I'm not a download glutton, and a 200 GB block will last me over a year. Let's say on average I might consume about 15GB a month, then that makes my total cost around $2/month on average. If I instead used Giganews, that same monthly download volume would cost me $13/month.

So compared to what I use now --three piggybacked block accounts-- switching to Giganews would cost me 6x as much, and could very well have a lot more missing files. The only possible advantage with Giganews is 1% more retention. But I don't think that having a 1% higher retention is worth a 600% higher price.

    I see ur point.
There is no ideal nntp ptovider out there so i guess using lets say astraweb+ some block account is the way to go.

I don't know if this topic only applies to HBO/SHO shows with articles/files missing and *non-completable* on Giganews, or other files missing on Giganews. It's already been pointed out (on other FST discussion threads) that there are files that won't complete on Giganews and can't be fixed using pars.

To name one example: how about Newzbin Report #5670754 ?
No one is saying that Giganews is perfect. I fully recognize that Giganews, as well as every provider has articles that are incomplete. All I am disputing right now is what is relevant to this thread: That using Giganews, I can download all of the HBO and Showtime programs that SOL emphatically states, I and other Giganews users cannot.

Skiz, Please try getting that one from Giganews before you continue your argument that Giganews is being unjustly criticized.
Tell me what that is or where to obtain it and I'll try. Does it pertain to HBO or Showtime episodes? .

I'm not familiar with "Newzbin reports".

You have, for all intents and purposes, 'called' the OP and two other fellows here liars. Maybe they are and maybe they are not. I do not know. This I do know, you are allegedly a moderator here yet conduct yourself as a sort of puerile brat. You use vulgarities and insults to refer to two posters in this thread, yet are a part of the staff. I understand that some of us as posters engage in those tactics but you are here to moderate, not contribute [to it]!

Here is a solid piece of advice: It is acceptable to have an 'unspoken' thought.

    Ummm... wrong.

I am here to enjoy the board and post my opinions in a manner that suits me, just as any other member. And on occasion, when a situation needs moderating, I do so.

    Now, back to the topic....

This whole affair is rather silly, although, like dog vomit, it catches your attention.

I 'say', to each their own.

    I use:

astraweb (~11 USD/mo, I paid slightly more, my mistake)
Rapidshare Premium (~24.50 USD, purchased enough 'rapids' to last 1 1/2 years)
Private Trackers + μtorrent (Totally free)

This provides everything I want. I am content. I am also more than content to let others use as they choose. I do not assert superiority or inferiority as I really do not know. I simply purchased what I purchased, the next person could do it differently and enjoy it as a better value.

Why are you looking there? Reading text newsgroups is a long lost skill I guess.

u misunderstood. I was simply referring to newzbin report i wasnt looking there for headers ffs
For ur consideration ive been using usenet for years and ive always worked directly with headers( god bless compressed headers! lol)

Skiz please join #a.b.teevee and tell them that there full of it and Giganews doesn't deleted HBO shows....bet you get laughed at...and imeediatly kicked....we have more than 5 people a days saying they can't get this HBO show or that HBO show and it's always Gignaews, now I find that strange...
Why would I go to a server where I would get laughed at and kicked? Thanks, but no thanks. This is your battle, and a shit one at that.

The bottom line is, you're trying to say that Giganews is deleting posts and hence, users are not able to obtain their HBO downloads. I'm saying you're full of shit because not one person has been able to name a show that I cannot download. Not one. Old, new, or ancient fucking history. Sounds like a witch hunt to me...
Maybe I can be that "one person"

This was mentioned on another thread that virtually all the shows of "Big Love" season-4 in 720P are incomplete and non-repairable on Giganews and Highwinds. I noticed that season 03 is the same way. Here's a sample:

    https://binsearch.info/?q=big+love+720p&max=250

Look at all the Big Love shows posted by "teevee" and "teh" between 200 and 600 days ago

    S03: E02 thru 10
    S04: E01 thru 08

These 17 releases all have 32 rar files in each set, each rar has one chunk missing, and there are not enough par2 blocks posted to repair any of them. A complete failure for Giganews and Highwinds.

I hope this is sufficient proof that SOL is definitely not "full of shit"

Thought I would chime in on this. From my experience with Giganews, is that they are great and they better be for the amount of money they want for their service. I went with Astraweb nearly a year ago and have found them to be equivalent to Giganews in service but far less expensive. I rarely get missing pieces and when I do they are so few that they are usually repairable, easily. The other day, I downloaded something that was 760 days old. So far Astraweb have been awesome and I would recommend them to anyone.
