A VPN or proxy service can be very helpful for safeguarding your identity if you're using Bittorrent, Emule, Limewire, or any P2P network. But for downloading from Usenet, there's no need for a VPN because you're basically already "anonymous" and completely out of sight from the copyright cops.

Even if you wanted to get both Giganews and a VPN, you'd probably be better off buying the Giganews $20/month special and getting some other VPN, as many are only about half the price that Giganews "charges" for its own brand. (not that I think Giganews is worth the extra price, but that's another issue)

    Check out Swiss VPN.

    http://www.swissvpn.net/

    Things I like about SwissVPN:

    *Very cheap monthly price
    *Non-US
*you can pay for just one month without having to remember to cancel as they don't auto-charge your credit card
*use P2P without being firewalled as most VPNs do

Btw ive just tested Deadwood that u mentioned(~100days ago)

1)97 days ago, CtrlHD, 720p -all parts are in place, even small par2's

2)~92 days ago, dvdrips, small par2 isnt there(sometimes its available), all other rar and pars can be downloaded except for just 1 part in every rar\par2.-> can be repaired

3)deadwood , 46 days ago, 720p. Same deal. Smll par2's are absent, every rar\par2 lacks 1 part. Easy to repair

    PS i get all articles(nzbs) from SUpersearch(newsleecher)
Since when is Newsdemon Giganews, there removed from Newsdemon.

And you used SS which has nothing do with your NSP, try getting them via headers, article ID missing = article not found.

Example there, no longer available.....you can not believe me or whatever....there will be times why you can't get them....

Skiz just 'cause you find them on search engines doesn't mean anything, there not deleted from search engines, just like SS.

And yes the Giganews arguement is sound and valid, they DMCA all HBO/Showtime shows, there retention isn't what is says it is, they keep track of data (mot other NSP's do to, but more for child porn) and are extremely over priced compared to most.

Skiz please join #a.b.teevee and tell them that there full of it and Giganews doesn't deleted HBO shows....bet you get laughed at...and imeediatly kicked....we have more than 5 people a days saying they can't get this HBO show or that HBO show and it's always Gignaews, now I find that strange...

Also, what most of you don't realize all posting is done via Astraweb so there will be bad spots...
And when you say you left a year ago, it's when Astraweb's data farms went down....there completion isseus are fixed...and what some people refuse to do in thee testing is use All 5 Astraweb servers....

Bad customers service with Astraweb, I've used 5 ticket requests mainly for changing billing and little stuff, and I get my ticket closed and completeed the next day, YEAH so bbbbbbaaaaad service.

And no my first post in NOT incorrect and/or false...

There is plenty of info out there to support my claim that Giganews gets' take down notices. If you delete the article ID, how is the NZB gonna find the article?

The newsreader makes a difference. People using popular free Grabit say they can't download something and others using a better newsreader can.

Earlier this year Binsearch.info added several hundred days to its retention, and did this almost instantly. Newzleech also went through a similar fill-up cycle. I think they must have downloaded the older headers from Giganews, since they then matched Giga's current retention.

I'm curious - when Binsearch and Newzleech filled up its header retention, a lot of files must have already been DMCA's from giganews servers. When article IDs are deleted, do the cooresponding headers also get deleted? If so, then Binsearch and Newzleech are going to have NZBs that will be incomplete -- that are not incomplete on other search engines that got all headers in real-time.

Can anyone verify if those NZBs of DMCA'd HBO shows end up having missing articles when pulled off Binsearch and Newzleech that are within the suddenly-added retention range?

? I tested them with nzb download checker. and downloaded some actually

These articles ARE on giganews servers.except for 1 -2 parts each rar\par Most of them CAN be repaired
I used SS just because it was at hand thats all.I could use any nzb index site as well for that matter

What does newsdemon have to do with all this? And all other Highwinds resellers? I checked all those files only on Giganews.

I dont state that there are no problems at all. I dont encourage to join giganews.I m not fond of their policy. There are problems with DMCA takedowns, indeed. But they are not as severe as one might think.

Why would I go to a server where I would get laughed at and kicked? Thanks, but no thanks. This is your battle, and a shit one at that.

The bottom line is, you're trying to say that Giganews is deleting posts and hence, users are not able to obtain their HBO downloads. I'm saying you're full of shit because not one person has been able to name a show that I cannot download. Not one. Old, new, or ancient fucking history. Sounds like a witch hunt to me...

I don't know if this topic only applies to HBO/SHO shows with articles/files missing and *non-completable* on Giganews, or other files missing on Giganews. It's already been pointed out (on other FST discussion threads) that there are files that won't complete on Giganews and can't be fixed using pars.

To name one example: how about Newzbin Report #5670754 ?

Skiz, Please try getting that one from Giganews before you continue your argument that Giganews is being unjustly criticized.

<[email protected]> is the message-id of a text article in 'giganews.general' where Philip Molter, CTO of Giganews, says that some articles were removed due to a DMCA takedown request.

    Newzbin Report #5670754
Ive searched for ur mathematical stuff....

    1)660 days ago:
    Parts checked: 631
    Undownloadable parts: 0
    All OK!

    2)634 days ago:

    Parts checked: 785
    Undownloadable parts: 0
    All OK!

    3) 72 days ago ( ur newzbin report)

    Parts checked: 881
    Undownloadable parts: 47
5,33% of the data can't be downloaded!

    cant be repaired, indeed.

But let me ask u just 2 questions:

    1) Does astraweb give ther subscribers 100% guarantee that all stuff posted to usenet is available?

2)Wtf do u need for an nntp provider with 717 days+ retention if u dont use its full potential?

    Really?Thats interesting
I cant find it on this newzbin report example.. Are u quite sure?

PS Posters should create larger PAR2 files so that miserable giganews users could repair 1-2 blocks missing from every rar, lol
