    131. My wife scored 129. (not today, not that test). 140+ is quite impressive! I'm afraid I would have to rest up and stop taking my pain meds to approach 130 again.

To be honest, most IQ tests are worthless. The only assertion worthy of note that they provide, is whether you are above or below average. Most "timed" IQ tests which, according to the general consensus, are the better assessment, pressurize people into making mistakes. All sorts of research done on the subject indicate that, no matter what people believe, humans do not work "better" under pressure.

That's also ignoring the fact that an artist should technically be able to score higher on such tests, than say a nuclear scientist, based on the fact that a scientist's spacial cognition would probably be far inferior to an artist's, who would fly past pattern based questions, as well as the rudimentarily designed "scientific"/"general knowledge" questions (such as the leopard question, and the brutally annoying 3,4,5/5,12,13 triangle questions on other tests).

All that aside, IQ tests, contrary to popular belief, test general knowledge/predisposed information more than testers and "PhD X" test designers would ever dare to admit to. A person who has run a similar calculation once before, can recall the same one in the test, skewing the results. There's no true way to separate whether a person has answered a question based on problem solving or memory aides, which defeats the purpose of the test.

Topic related: The first time I got tested was when I was 12, and I scored 124. My pops was really disappointed in me, so that explains some of the sour attitude I display towards this sort of farce.

That's really sad. As long as we are telling depressing stories- I never did much better in a high school classes than I had to because I did not want my father to expect straight A's. Interestingly enough, when a small group of potential valedictorians were discussing who would win, I was asked by them (with expectations that I was a potential contender) what my GPA was. That was kinda cool.

    "I could've been a contender. I could've been somebody instead of a bum, which I am."

131 last time I took one. I might try this new test link if I'm bored later tonight and have some free time

And yes, you should keep in mind that results are stupid and arbitrary, and there's no "standardized" IQ test... depending on which site or test version you take, your scores could vary wildly.

I think the general metric is >120 is average and >150 is genius, but I don't really remember.

A match! Know onder I have allways founded you a werthy apponent. The game is a foot...

Seriously, I believe there is something to these tests in that we are very much on the same level (no insult intended ) I have also found my wife to be quite equal in almost every test we have taken together- that includes grad school where we are currently at a 3.9 and 3.91 GPA (with her slightly in the lead). Last year's "Student of the Year" had a measly 3.7-something...

I do, in fact, think differently than she does. When I find myself in legal trouble, I defend myself. I do quite well. My wife is far better starting papers, while I am better at getting the "key points".

Here is a breakdown of IQ's based on standard deviation. Some of us are more devious than others... The good news is that we just cross the "genious" line. I've seen it at 130 before. 100 is "average", BTW. Although I have haqd a difficult time identifying anyone who would fall into what I consider "average". I tend to estimate people much higher (probably 120-ish) myself.

Also, a wiki that seems to be quite thorough. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligence_quotient

I completely empathize with that sentiment. I went through a phase of "not trying" for 3 years. Sort of went to a pause in cognitive development, decided to go out have fun with friends, hit on random girls, unbar any indiscretion I had, sort of act out of personality to see how better I'd feel about myself. Self-destruction, people would call it, I'd call it drinking at 2pm on Tuesdays before a midterm.

Eventually I clicked back into my own self, because that sort of behavior wasn't befitting with who I ultimately wanted to be. I reminisce upon that period in my life, though, and continue to see nothing wrong with it up and until this day. Whenever I have a friend who seems to be overly stressed, I tell them to take a week's break, from everything. Whether it be midterms/finals/studies/relationships etc. Nothing quite rejuvenates the soul, as does the assurance that you have no worries tomorrow.

There certainly is merit to taking time off, and finding out how much of a "train wreck" one can become. I would just caution people in spending a decade+ in doing it.

    Kids, this is MBM...

    Don't be an MBM...

I see that qpd opened the thread, but he isn't involving at all.
For the moment, I have not received any answer from him.
    This is too bad.
