Nova Scotia tends to run more expensive than other parts Canada and added to that everything basically doubles in price during tourist season.

im reading a book about north korea in my spare time, it is mega lulz in some parts. they're not allowed to have any paintings or photos on the wall except for either a photo of kim il sung, a photo of kim jong il and a third photo of the two of them together. They get given these for free along with a box with a white cloth in it to clean the mould off them. their version of the police can come into peoples homes at any given time to inspect the photos for mould and arrest them if they find any. Men aren't allowed their hair to grow over 5cm, 7cm is allowed for balding men. None of the buildings in pyongyang have advertisements on them or wording, only stuffs about the Democratic People's Republic or "our dear leader kim jong il" are allowed up. and cos there's no power, if you were to stand in the middle of their high street at 7pm in the evening, if you looked left or right you wouldn't even be able to see the building cos its so dark. And, each northern Korean village/town gets its own cinema but only shows propaganda movies and the occasional Russian film on a weekend as a treat. One film once had a scene where it was suggested that a man and a woman kissed, it was rated 18/R and banned weeks later

There are so many things going on there, even more terrible then what you've described. The kind of shit refugees who've fled to South Korea have described is absolutely ridiculous. Oddly, I don't have an empathetic reaction... as the only thing running through my mind is why isn't there grand scale revolt? It's a mass nation of enablers.

but all that bullshit is drilled into them from birth. they wake up, clean their photos of their leaders, put on their pins/badges over their hearts of kim jong ill, go to work for 8 hours, then to their brainwashing classes in the factories after for a further 4 hours where they talk about their weaknesses like believing they're not working hard enough. Then they go home to their small one room homes where they roll out beds and all sleep in the same room... etc... And, 80% of them believe they are lucky. That they have it good and feel bad for countries like America, Japan - whom they believe are falling apart due to the propaganda announcements that get drilled into them through speakers (sometimes in their homes if they're wealthy enough). They believe this is as good as it gets. Such a small, small amount of them know the truth or have suspicions. They have 26 year old school teachers who don't know how babies are made. And the very thought of defecting to the south would turn the stomach of most north Koreans as it would go against everything they know
