Difficulty: No rap/hip-hop and no Google-list-paste. It should be a song that you know and like. Please describe a little about the song and how successful you feel it is in what it attempts to relay.

It's a bit of a bizarre request, but I have faith in you.

things are quiet until hitler decides he'd like to invade russia
    so, he does
the russians are like "OMG WTF D00DZ, STOP TKING"
and the germans are still like "omg ph34r n00bz"
the russians fall back, all the way to moscow
and then they all begin h4xing, which brings on the russian winter
the germans are like "wtf, h4x"

Nick Cave - Where the Wild Roses Grow feat. Kylie Minogue

Though at first it looks your romantic ballad, soon it turns into something much darker. An excellent example that not everything sounds like what it wants to mean.

Probably a bit obvious but nonetheless a great track.

    Rod Stewart - The Killing Of Georgie - Parts 1 & 2

Tells the story of his gay friend George, and his murder. Probably an unlikely candidate to make such a popular and catchy tune, sung to and whistled to by many when played on the radio etc.

Trivium - Down From The Sky

I believe this song is talking about the Hiroshima bombings that occurred during the final stages of WW2, or maybe just war in general.

Jim Carroll - People Who Died

A hard-driving punk masterpiece from his 1980 album "Catholic Boy." The title is self-explanatory; supposedly it is about all of Carroll's friends who died for a variety of reasons (suicides, overdoses, accidents, murders...). Quite a catchy tune given the subject matter is a list of fatalities. Features a simple yet satisfying singalong chorus that was a crowd pleaser at many house parties where this tune ended up on the turntable. Last year, at age 60, Carroll himself became a person who died.

Nazareth: The Ballad of Hollis Brown

From the 1973 album “Loud n’ Proud.” A massively heavy version of the Bob Dylan ballad about a desperate farmer who kills his family and commits suicide. Nine minutes of a droning fuzztone guitar, hypnotic beat and wailing vocals that build menacingly to the inevitable conclusion. For full effect, listen to this song when you’re home alone at night with the lights out, preferably during a thunderstorm.

    Hey Joe- Jimi Hendrix.
She done him wrong...so he shot her.

    Fabulous backing vocals.

Peg and Pete and Me- Stan Ridgway.
Musical noir, think The Postman Always Rings Twice.

    Cell Block Tango- from Chicago.
A great, high-energy song from my favorite musical.
