This all sounds pretty sweet. I do worry about the price (that we still don't know) and the 3rd-party apps available though.

History repeats itself. I've been reading about iPhone killers since 2007. It's sad that so many companies, even big players, aren't able to hold a candle to a small manufacturer like Apple. Even months later nothing comparable to the iPad is available or production ready. They had enough time to copy Apple but can't manage to do it.

Who is impressed by the technical specs (only on paper of course for the next few month) of the playbook must not forget, that the iPad 2 will be available next spring at the latest.

Competition would be healthy for the iPad. So far it's non existent.

The question is however if the other are just too stupid to copy Apple or if Steve Jobs is too intelligent to have the iPhone copied. I'm not really happy with that iPhone hype. I mean look around, every single jerk owns it now. Apple is really becoming the new Microsoft...

I never said it's an iPad killer mainly because I don't think the iPad is worth killing, contrary to the iPhone. I take it as a tablet, period.

As for the iPad 2, all the features that I highlighted (outside the processor) definitely won't be on any iPad, even the 5th generation.

I agree with you that history seems to be repeating itself but I'm pretty sure competition will come faster than for the iPhone. If only manufacturers would try to bring innovative products to the table instead of waiting for somebody else to do it.

Oh and Apple is not a hardware company any more than it is a software one. Actually, most of Apple fame and reputation comes from its software, not hardware. What makes the iPhone what it is is iOS.
