I used a freeware program once that was a really great hard drive informational tool, but I can't remember what it is.

It gave information about how long the drive has been used in its lifetime (in time), and number of writes etc, and an estimate of a failure risk.

Does anyone have a program that can do this?

You are talking about a S.M.A.R.T. status analyzer.
The one I use, though not freeware, is Active@ Hard Disk Monitor.
It isn't good, it is great!
