Anyone have any experiences with them? Any models I should avoid? Any brands I should be looking out for?

I'm thinking of getting a really small laptop for my gf, I guess they are called netbooks? They seem really impractical cause the keyboards are TINY, but she really wants one, and not wanting to lug around her huge laptop that doesn't even fit her backpack is understandable.

As far as laptops are concerned, I've found HP have shitty battery life and heating problems, but other than that I don't know much.

I can understand the benefit here after having used a laptop for four years in college, but at the same time...they just seem so stupid. When I eventually jump on this bandwagon, it will be with a "pad". I know there's gotta be one of those lightweight, rubber 'keyboards' that can easily connect via Bluetooth.

Other than the greatness of the rubber keyboards, their keyboards aren't as bad as they took. I used asusEEE of my friend and it was OK. Imho, you should care about price and the cuteness of the device. Netbooks don't have impressive specs anyway.
