I found this great guide to using newsgroups a few days ago...thought I'd post it here, hopefully some people will find it handy...

i actually found it when looking for a PAR2 file reader

some servers are free (ones that come with isp are free, however, as the guide says, they may be poor).
i'm lucky in that my ISP's news service is excellent
you should look at your isp's home page (or contact them), for details of their retention and/or completion rates
