There weren't very many as far as I know. For me, it's Million Dollar Baby.

If climbing can be termed a sport then Touching the Void if not the The Fighter with a nod to Friday Night Lights.
Both Million Dollar Baby and The Wrestler are too much a downer for me.

Also see North Face, it's very good.

I really admired Million Dollar Baby but think that the boxing aspect was almost peripheral to what was essentially a character study (or even a love story).

Thanks I've never heard of it ,I'll check it out. For some reason climbing and oddly surfing tends to generate some great movies.

I'm not acrophobic- just height averse- but I found the climbing sequences in North Face almost unbearably realistic and intense.
I do not understand how people do that for fun.

And it is based on a true story. I watched it a few months ago after your suggestion clocker in "the what is latest..." thread. A good one

I haven't seen The Fighter yet, might give it a go.

Remember the Titans (2000) - American Football
Gridiron Gang (2006) - American Football
    Coach Carter (2005) - Basketball
Greenstreet Hooligans (2006) - Football themes. Beware; Elijah wood is such a terrible actor!

    On my "to-watch" list

    The Fighter (2010) - Boxing
    The Wrestler (2008) - Wrestling
    Invincible (2006) - American Football
    Girlfight (2000) - Boxing

    ...
