Ok, this was originally about HDBits.org, but looks like invites are closed, so I'm making a request first for some information, then possibly some invites.

I'm a member of PTN and PTP, as well as a prolific user of IPT and public. I never use DDL or Usenet, because those need money to use to the max. Do I need a dedicated HD site? If so, what would be good? Reasons listed are below.

Here is why you shouldn't invite me:
    - I watch 720p movies on a 14" laptop with 1440x900 res.
    - I use a Sennheiser 202
    - I watch movies in phases, so if I move out of my movie phase, I'll probably be inactive for a little while.
    - I'll be inactive during the summers, when I'm on a dial-up connection instead of a 2MB/s college one
    - I never watch 1080p, because my HDD space is limited and my screen's not big enough
    - I don't own a singly Bluray nor have the equipment to play an actual disk.

Here is why you should invite me:
    - I am OCD about quality - I'd rather go for the untouched DVD rather than watch a shitty encode
    - I am OCD about transparency - if I don't think an encode is transparent, my viewing experience is that much diminished
    - I am OCD about seeding - if I'm at a site that logs the snatch list, I'll seed forever just so my seeding list = my snatch list
    - I watch 2 movies a day
    - I recently started a movie club that tries to watch a movie a week (this is on a proper 32" 720p screen and nice speakers

I'll add more as I think about it. I really don't like making requests - I'd rather join through open signups rather than take an invite from someone, but as I understand it, HDBits never opens.

Making a good request because you want to join a tracker is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. The problems surface when the requester conveniently fails to tell us he's already had an account there, or lies about why he wants it, or thinks this is a piggy bank where you can get free invites with 5 posts. It's always those or a subset of those, but you're obviously not a lamer.

Anyway, if what Cabalo posted on that other thread wasn't a joke, it appears they've already closed again.

EDIT: Hmm, looks like invites are closed again. Any site or combination of sites that can make up for what HDBits has? I know, the old DDL/public thing but I find that proper 720p's of older than 2009 movies are hard to get, because HD still seems niche.
You don't have to apologize to me or anyone for merely wanting something .

Yeah, well whatever. I guess I can switch this over as a request for any of the countless good HD trackers out there. I just recently got into proper 720p after getting my new HDD.

And the same applies for me. It would be a tad hypocritical of me to hold this against you when I myself enjoy it (perhaps as much as you would have). (EDIT: ) That isn't the reason I'm not going to hold this against, you, though. I'm not simply because there's no reason to. You want something, sure. I will hold you absolutely liable for owning the 202's, though. That's something I cannot overlook.

At any rate, even within the HDBits community itself, a crowd pleaser is Usenet. The thing is, and the thing most people don't realize is, if you actually care about quality, you can skip HDBits entirely, and check out Chinese group's sources on Usenet. A source will always be of higher quality than an encode, and the latter is why HDBits is sought after (or at least I'd like to think so in an ideal world). However, if you're looking for sources, Usenet, HDBits, CHDBits and HDChina all end up being practically equivalent to one another. With Usenet in the far far lead. That and the fact that some HDB internal groups take the time and dedication to post their material on Usenet themselves.

P.S. Note that I'm a movie nut. TV shows not much, but yes, some things like the Daily Show and Late Night talk shows get exclusive HDB caps that don't make it elsewhere, but those same episodes make it on BMTV (because their capping crew is just as proficient).

Hmm, sources. They range from 25-50GB, no? That would be out of the question for me. Even my OCD can only take me so far, but not past the boundaries of my HDD. The only thing about Usenet is that you have to pay for it, which is beyond my wallet and my morals.

Don't expect the same quality, but there are free services. And they aren't that bad.
