So anyone else wondering if this is the retention wars of 2008 all over again? Usenetserver is now at 810 days - Retention just keeps going up and cost keeps going down, hells yeah...

same as another highwinds company- newshosting...

instead of increasing retention it would have been better to move server farms and the company office outside the jurisdiction of US... DMCA takedowns hit hard highwinds\giganews servers...

Yeah but everything is reposted so many times, usually within just days of the original post, its not an issue - at least that's been my experience with usenetserver anyway

sh!t gets deleted, sh!t gets reuploaded...
its not very reassuring if they begin dmca-ing stuff more seriously.. and in semi-automatic mode on widespread scale

Besides, its not gonna help you if there are no re-upploads later on(for instance some rare movies)..

i wouldnt like to live under the sword of Damocles all the time..

PS another thing is.. they dont actually need to monitor those free index sites and if we didnt have them it wouldnt really matter
if they wanted to do things properly they would set up their own index service using for instance newznab software, set up watch filters, autosending dmca etc

its possible and i think in time with the growth of usenet popularity it will come to this.. and then we'll have to use cryptic names and password like "password" to avoid scanning of archive's content by their indexer

that might be a good thing, but whatever happens I hope for all our sakes we won't ever have to go back to trolling the headers to find what we need, that would be like a big punch in the face....
