u know when u rite click something, and click Create Shortcut, and it creates a shortcut wherever. the shortcut itself says Shortcut to, and the thing.

i know theres an option in XP where u can have all ur shortcuts not say Shortcut to, and only say the name of the original file. i know becuz i did this b4, but i forgot. any help?

i wouldn't worry about it - it just takes 5 seconds to rename the shortcut

just delete the "shortcut to" part yourself
right click on the shortcut and click "rename"

Can't recall about text prefix but for the arrow here it is:
Remove shortcut arrow from desktop icons
Here's how you can remove those shortcut arrows from your desktop icons in Windows XP.

1. Start regedit.
2. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile
3. Delete the IsShortcut registry value.

You may need to restart Windows XP.

If I remember about prefix i will post it later.

Removing "Shortcut To" Prefix
____________________________________________________
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

Start Registry Editor.
Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

Modify the data value of the Link value to be 00 00 00 00.

NOTE: For Windows 95, the Link value does not exist by default. Create the Link value as a Binary value, with a data value of 00 00 00 00.
Restart the computer.
To implement this change for all users on a computer with user profiles enabled, modify the Link value in the following registry keys:
HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

HKEY_USERS\username\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

To restore the "Shortcut to" prefix, delete the Link value.
