Need help Setting up SABNzbd

Hi guys
i am new to the world of usenet
i have installed SABNzbd, but it fails to start up
it says the port 8080 is blocked and i can try port 8081
but even that is blocked by my Comodo Firewall

How do i create an exception In Comodo For SABNzbd to function correctly?
how do i unblock the port 8080(http) without compromising my security?

This is really more of a basic firewall issue than a usenet issue. I'm just curious why you've chosen to use an alternate port (8080) instead of the standard NNTP port 119 (or SSL port 563)? Is it because your ISP throttles these ports?

First of all, I should start by saying that Comodo - with all its 'bells and whistles' - is not the easiest firewall for a beginner. To start with, you can go into security/tasks/define a new trusted application and select Sabnzbd - just like you would do for any program that connects to the internet.

You should have got a popup whenever any newly installed application tries to pass through the firewall and connect to the internet for the first time, allowing you to (permanently) approve or deny the connection in one click. Anyway, modern software firewalls are application-based, rather than port-based like the older (pre-2000) firewalls were. So you should not ever have to worry about blocking/unblocking ports (like we did all the time in the old days). Once you green-light an application, it will be allowed to connect using any port.

i did set it to trusted application in Comodo
but it doesn't work
The application doesn't even start, i didn't assign it the port 8080 or 119
it shows the error by default

SABnzbd needs a free tcp/ip port for its internal web server.
Port 8080 on localhost was tried , but it is not available.
Some other software uses the port or SABnzbd is already running.

Please restart SABnzbd with a different port number.

Press Startkey+R and type the line (example):
"C:\Program Files (x86)\SABnzbd\SABnzbd.exe" --server localhost:8081

If you get this error message again, please try a different number.

it shows the same error with 119

Don't confuse the port that SABnzbd+ runs its web gui from (8080) with the port your NSP server uses (119)

It sounds like its an issue with your firewall so I have not clue. You could check the SABNZBD+ forums. http://forums.sabnzbd.org/

This could serve as a prime example of why a person asking for help needs to give as much information as possible up-front, rather than forcing others try to extract it or end up playing some sort of guessing-game. Although I believe that I answered the question as asked (by coincidence port 8080 is a common alternate port used by some NSPs [completely unrelated issue] as well as SABnzbd's internal proxy) that was not an accurate description of the actual problem (the error message in 3rd post gives better clues)

Sabnzbd is a little harder to set up and understand than the typical NZB client. There are many other good ones to choose from, most are free, so why not just try another? HelloNZB does the job and is about as simple as they come.
