firstly. a lot of thanks to the old hands who spend a lot of time repeating the same answers, creating FAQ pages and stuff. i have learnt a lot from u guys.
sometimes the replies get out of hand though. people put add-ons to the original post which definately gets confusing. then theres the broken links.
i'd like to suggest that the original post in the pinned section get edited rather than have 2 pages of replies, saying: but if you have this, do this etc.
the search feature of this forum isn"t that flash. when the newbies like me do a search for "burning games" for example it seems to turn up anything with "burning" and anything with "games" . If theres a function already for reducing this, then apologies but to the newbie, (again me), it isn' t obvious. thus you get twatloads of reoccuring questions. (i have yet to post such questions because I know the answers are there. Its just that today, I have been going in damn circles for hours)
Id suggest also under software, movies, games etc to have a basic "How to" pin.
eg games.
How to:
1. download a game. (what abbreviations/ icons to look for, in order to get a basic playable game.
2. install the game. the different way these games come to you, ie. compressed files, WinRAR Archive (my current problem) and how to open them, again which abbreviations to look for. .exe?
3. save the game to disk. there are heaps of programs out there it seems, NERO, ROXIO, DAEMON etc. do they all do different things?
I have Roxio Easy CD creator 5. Is this all I need?
The biggest problem I have is what to do with the files once I have downloaded them. For example I recently downloaded from SuperNova
Warcraft III- CLONE CD
Type: WinRAR Archive
size 701 Mb
after extracting the files, I am left with 4 files. CCD, CUE, IMG AD SUB. No icons etc, nothing that says Install Me!! with shiny letters. So I'm buggered if I know.
anyway, my main suggestion is to keep editing the FAQs so amendments, edits, add-ons, thankyous, random questions, flames etc. don't detract from the main point.
Again a big thankyou to the help the StylinProfilins, jetjes, cornerpockes, the guy with the monkey finger, toddiscool and all the others, etc. we appreciate what you have done.
supergaijin. (in Japan= if anyone wants to know about working here, i might be able to help)
