Thread: 3.5" Disk Drives..on The Way Out Or Here To Stay?

  1. #1
I Was wondering if 3.5" Floppy Disk drives are slowly but surely on the way out or are they here to stay and will be and integral part of a PC?

ahhh good ol floppy, i remeber when you could back up your whole hard drive on a floppy....i suppose floppys are getting out of date...but its not really digital so they do wear out, like if you were to access it data like 50 times a day it would die out

They're on their way out. It happens more often that I see brochures of complete PC's without the good old floppy drive.

Yeah, Floppies will soon be ancient technology. USB sticks, CompactFlash and other digital chip storage technologies are now becoming very popular. Even now, you don't really need floppies anymore, most motherboard's BIOS can be updated with CDs or USB flash drives. You can even buy ultra-compact PCs that run an 8 MB modified version of Windows 98, stored on a compact flash card.

yeah I'd say they are on the way out but my sister was gonna get a computer without one, but I said she should get one because well most people don't have an alternative other than a cd drive. Also I need it because at my school some of the computers only have floppies.

Clunky technology, no good reason to have one.
