Thread: Security of Usenets

  1. #1
As I (kind of) understand Usenets seem to be a little more secure than torrent and also eliminates the need for the use of PG2 etc. How does security work on say Astraweb? Is the SSL servers to stop ISP's snooping on what you download, what happens to IP addresses? I know with BT they are in a swarm which anyone can view. is there any IP logs with usenet?

Nah, they don't log because if they did, they could be held responsible for all the illegal gay midget porn on their servers which their customers download. Now they can claim that they don't know how much warez people download. The do log IPs when uploading (to prevent spam/CP).

usenet has multiple levels of this security stuff.
    1. you get in trouble for sharing/uploading not downloading, with usenet you never have to share.
    2. you don't get in trouble from your isp you get in trouble from the content owners or people that pay them to catch you, with usenet only your usenet provider and your isp can see you. with ssl which most servers offer for free only your usenet provider can see.

in short download your copyrighted video games tv shows and movies with no worries.
