I am trying to connect two pc, via a direct cable connection. parallel
    to
parallel. one pc had a printer conected to it, an old one. I
    disconected,
it didn't have an uninstall program for the printer, so i deleted the
printer folder it made, as well as deleting the printer from the
    printer
section in the control panel. one pc configures with no problem(guest)
the the one that had the printer cant find the parallel port during the
configuraton process. it states no ports found?

Open up device manager (Windows Key + Pause/Break > Hardware > Device Manager)

Check in the "Ports" whether printer port is there. Normally people have it on LPT1...you might have to update the driver.

Port is there, and it states working correctly, but in the direct connection wizard i get "could not add new port to this system" and there are no ports show at all to select from.

Try updating the driver and changing the port to LPT2 and then back to LPT1. It needs restart each time you do it. Then try again.

You can also make a network between two with just a crossover cable.
