Well mate its a conflict ..which could really be anything.
Tri mini port driver then...and just keep tring .,otherwise just tri a re-installin wins.

HOw do you know UDMA is disabled???
Just because the drive is slower than before???
Maybe you just need a Defrag....

is there a program to enable it forcefully? or something in the registry to edit so that no 6 CRC checks can put it in pio mode?

Really look in your device manager at the driver I say that because although you put the update on Windows doesn't alway's do what it is told mine was STILL on the old driver,if it is just tell it to look for a new one and it should find the one you put on at this stage anything is worth a try.
The via setup normally asked you this enable/disable.

nopes didnt work.... didnt find any other driver to update
but thx for the tip...
the VIA setup didnt ask for it... i guess im getting closer to reformatting 
i just need to make some backups....but i still cant lol

Still not having much luck are you mate.
Did you tri the ide tool after?....once its installed you should have an icon in the systray where you can set the speed up and down.
