I don't know about legal issues but one thing is clear - this concept of giving invites at christmas is totally wrong.
Why? Pretty simple - most of the people are enjoying their hollidays at that time and don't give rats ass about torrent sites but traders, on the other hand, are sitting in front of their pc's refreshing index page and waiting for the "big news".

I'm confused ,you can get movies on HDbits that you can't get anywhere else?

They are the only place I know of that does HDTV captures, only some of those making their way to usenet.

So Hdbits is prejudiced against non-Christians.
I thought that sort of thing was illegal.

They should address that, someone should go in and help them make their site more legal

They can be a TV show or a movie, anything as long as the tv box is airing it. Sorry I think I didn't get your point.

Well I don't think doing it on christmas would cause other religions to be excluded, but how about open signups during lent or ramadan?

Anon, you would have an idea of why I do that. That's only part of it, let me share the secret truth about why I tend to select adult instead of family friendly more often than is necessary. I hate the term and concept of "family friendly". Nudity isn't exclusively adult, in fact sex and nudity is probably more youth than adult.

I do that for forums which don't have an attachment system like vB - kind of sucks having to type TinyPic's captcha though

Why do people ask for the impossible? I mean let's face it - it's literally impossible until at least next Xmas and only then if HDbits staff forget their last experience with opening up invites over christmas. HDbits has to be the single most impossible tracker to join. E has applications and so does FS*, FTN gives out invites to some donaters, ftwr had applications and some manual invites during very special occasions, and there are some extremely secretive trackers that have applications and give out some invites during donation drives. HDbits makes them all look easy to join in comparison. There are no applications at HDbits, invites are never enabled unless you count the few hours last christmas and that's probably not happening ever again, and the list of people who can actually use their invites at HDbits is extremely short and most of them will never set foot around fst (or any other similar forum).

Sorry to be a killjoy but unless you are a pretty respected encoder and/or you have some serious connections this will just be like the dozens of other HDbits request threads I see on a daily basis, doomed to go on and on until you give up hope or get bored of bumping. I'm not actually saying all this to be mean, I'm trying to help you. Your setting yourself up for major disappointment and depending on how much time you invest bumping this thread & how seriously you take torrenting a major letdown once you realize the request will not work. There are lots of great HD trackers that you could join, why not try for them instead.

What you said was utter bullshit. You don't need any serious connections if you wanna join hdbits. You already know how I became a member of hdbits in 2010. Someone invited me, and I got banned. He invited me again the same day, and I got banned again, and he was demoted to the UHD user class. Then, for some mysterious reason, they decided to re-enable me (well, later they explained it by saying they had taken pity on me) and two weeks ago, they banned me again because I had joined irc. Yet you talk about it as if it's some kind of Ivy League university. It's not. I am sure the OP has a pretty big chance of getting invited to hdbits if he contacts admins or VIPs using irc. I can tell him the usernames of some admins and VIPs that I know. He can contact them on irc and ask them for an hdbits invite. You are wrong if you think that it's harder to join hdbits than any other tracker.

Dude, I know you completely lack common sense and are missing a few fruit loops from your bowl, but seriously? HDBits is by far the hardest "well known" tracker to join. And I doubt VIPs or staff there are going to take too kindly to some random person PMing them out of the blue begging for an invite.
