Judges should bitch slap these people. If they really broke a patent the company had MORE then enough time to sue the companies. There is just no excuse for a company to wait this long for filing a complaint, but money.

They are nothing but parasites. Even if a judge found in favor of them, BT would survive. Open source is outside of what can be controlled by corporations, and lawyers who understand nothing but money and entanglements. They can try, but they will get nothing. I would not surprise me if one of the Industries (recording, movie, etc) was invested/owns this do-nothing but sue company.

Also I am not sure what part of the the network is patented. Would this however not mean that for example companies like blizzard could as well get a lawsuit against them as they also use a torrent like system for patching? Or did blizzard not create it's own version of it and used existing software?

"this case could have a disastrous impact on the BitTorrent landscape." I just don't see how, because I just don't think the Bittorrent company is that important to bittorrent file sharing. Suppose the company closes down? While I can see utorrent not being upgraded and people gradually switching to other clients, I don't see much else.
