When Google Wave was announced, plenty of people were trying to trade tracker invites for it.

yes i fear that thing, there are great chances that it may go to wave's path as the biggest competitor Facebook has became a "Platform" and G+ really had to work hard againt all odds.
Facebook already announced to add skype to beat Google Hangouts. the real competition is yet to begin, once G+ will be available to masses.

About the people running behind it to get an invite, to me its sounds like the joker's statement from the movie The Dark Knight, "I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it"

I'm waiting for the moment when I can trade google+ invite for hdbits, ftn, exigo, fsc, etc hard to get tracker invites.

Not true, G+ is only developed to use the massive success of FB and the likes and to get Google a piece of the 'social-network'-hype.
If it were developed for 'professional in corporate house' (sic), how come all the 'cool' kids are on G+ right now?

i was referring to this very so-planned beta-ish phase.
why its tough for people to understand that this in not the full G+, you cannot even mute a user now, the major surprises are yet to come
not "all" but yes few cool kids got invite which is beyond the load G+ can take (or the safe load for this phase to be specific) so they forced to close all loopholes to prevent more people joining.

BTW 3 more days to see the new avatar of FB
i was thinking skype will die after M$ took it but no...... great things are yet to happen

and BTW who didn't get invite email with this test . you all are in refugee mode in G+
