No, but a lot of French liked to vacation there. If it were you, wouldn't you have rebelled against their tourism, too?
Luckily, it only took one angry Algerian with a pointed, day-old baguette to run them all off. The entire country of France had initially drawn up a treaty declaring all of France property of the Algerians, but they didn't want to actually go to France to claim it.
