I hear the only way that they knew for sure that she was dead was that she didn't appear to be stoned.

As opposed to the death of an untroubled 27 year old girl woman which is one big party.

I think this is not a big surprise considering how she lived. But still, another great singer is gone. RIP.

She needed help. I find her case a tragedy in that she never got the help she needed.
I don't usually call you out MBM but tortured soul ? seriously ? She was a major drug addict! People get famous, they get rich, some handle it and do fine, some lose it completely and fuck up their own lives. There now seems to be this pervasive public belief that because someone is a celebrity they can do what they want, and if they end up offing themselves, then they are somehow tortured. The ordinary drug addict without the means is a crackwhore or steals to get their next fix. They are villified in general processed with little care, but celebrities are somehow special.

Michael Jackson paid a Doctor with no morals $75,000 per month to give him whatever drugs he wanted and he died of an acute mixture of heavy duty psychiatric drugs and propofol an an aesthetic used to keep people unconcious during surgery. He eventually took enough drugs to kill a moose, so because he had the money to do this he is somehow special ? They blamed the Doctor and the pharmacies (3 different ones and at least 2 known aliases). He had the money to beat the system, he beat the system that regulates these drugs so people don't have overdoses and he died.

At least they didn't find her like Elvis, dead on the shitter with a congealing peanut butter and baked banana sandwich in her hand......

If I was going to mourn the passing (and I do) of a young and very talented singer, dead before her time (at 27 incidentally) it would be Mia Zapata.

    So it wasn't drugs?

Autopsy ... has not established a cause of death

Police said [Amy Winehouse] was not surrounded by drugs or paraphernalia when she passed away.

You don't have to die from an overdose to have drug use be cause of your death.

The recent celebrity deaths from drugs of the last few years have not been from an overdose of one drug, but rather a combination of drugs combining to cause toxic poisoning. There are many other examples but the two most famous and recent were of course Heath Ledger and Michael Jackson.
In the case of Heath Ledger he was taking three separate drugs in the benzodiazapene range (Diazepam, Temazepam and Alprazolam) all of which are extremely reactive with other drugs, along with Oxycodone, Hydrocodone and Doxylamine. It was the combination of these drugs that caused toxic shock and heart failure.
Michael Jackson's cocktail was even more hair raising, including three narcotic pain relievers, the mixture of more than one , should have been fatal by itself. They were Demerol, Dilaudin and vicodin. Other drugs were Zanax, Zoloft, Soma as well as Paxil. And of course the piece de resistance, the surgery only anaesthetic Propofol. Once again it was a toxic combination that caused heart failure.
It is the fact that prescripton drugs are seen as acceptable, that is dangerous, the fact that many of these people used multiple doctors to obtain multiple prescriptions, which defeated the whole health system and caused their death.
In the case of Amy Winehouse's autopsy the verdict at the moment undetermined, pending toxicology results, and since a full tox screen is likely to be at least a week, it is anyones guess, but the fact that they are relying on toxicology for an answer is an answer in itself.
