That's the fluffy version, a bit more history would help in your degree though. The British planned to hand over India after WW2, that was the whole reason for sending Lord Mountbatten in the first place.
Revisionists of course forget this rather salient fact or the fact that Gandhi allowed partition when the vast majority of his supporters did not want a divided India, and now Pakistan and India have become two of the most warlike states with frequent border skirmishes and several wars since partition. They still dispute and fight over the Kashmir to this day and now of course both countries not only have the atomic bomb but medium range ballistic missiles capable of wreaking havoc to either side.
