How Do I Shut Down A Program Without Crashing?

I was trying to acces the flashpoint game today , i tried the noraml exe and that made my screen go blank and only my mouse popped up , i have no clue how to get things back to normal so i always end up having to reboot and then i used the patch and the same thing happened , is there a key like how f4 shuts down something your using , only this key will restore your screen ?

Hit ALT+F4 to close it, if that doesn't work try CTRL+ALT+DEL to open task manager and close it from their, you could also try ALT+TAB to cycle through all open windows or finally windowskey+D to minimize all open windows. whew.
