I'm running a tweaked Windows 7 on it, and it's quite fast. Obviously, you can't do anything resource-intensive nor run newer games because framerates are horrible (however, Doom and Quake 1 work fine and are fun to play when you're bored). But what it's meant to do, browsing and office tasks, it does fine.

I have a Dell Inspiron and a Toshiba Satellite. My Dell works like a charm however my toshiba heats up frequently...
I have a 5 year old Toshiba Satellite that has a discrete video card and an HDMI port, not many then had the HDMI port but the more expensive offerings and it stays connected to the TV. Now it runs almost 24/7 with a 3TB Western Digital just connected for torrents. It came with Vista installed which I dumped as soon as Windows 7 became available also added additional RAM.
Now the BT traffic goes to the external HDD and also can easily backup the notebook HDD. Wonder if those notebook coolers are as useful as manufacturers claim, worried that it may have restarted a few times on account of the heat.
Computers become obsolete relatively fast and this Toshiba has been fine so far ... knock on wood.
Macbook pro - the only Mac I have. All my desktops were and are windows.
ASUS K52F really cheap but I'm more than happy with it. Bought it 6 months ago for $400. Highly recomended for anyone who is not into heavy gaming. I play SC2 on it, that works great.
