This section has been dead for a while. Time to ruffle some feathers.

While I believe we should be protected from free speech abuse, censorship abuse, net neutrality etc I don't believe what some of the actions Anonymous does is entirely appropriate. Leaking confidential databases, email addresses/passwords, logins, ddosing sites that society are dependent on is just pointless. A video depicting their intentions and some motivational music isn't going to change anything.

Now, unless they go into the white house and start shooting a few rounds at some important people, we're going nowhere. Hell, even terrorists get their point across.

As good as anyone ever could

Anonymous, I think they are doing what they are doing, this what they wanted in the first place, popularity. They are playing on their concrete ground, It would be quite hard to gun down important people in comparison to sit in a dark room behind a monitor.

They could create Y2K 2011/2012 if they really wanted to and REALLY fuck up Wall Street but NOO they want to do a peaceful protest:

ie. A bunch of kiddies standing around with masks on.

Activism is activism, laws aside. They're activists with their own methods, why can't we just call them activists and leave an in depth analysis of such a fluid group aside? I don't think they'll instigate any real change, they'll probably end up as tools that work against what they're to accomplish.

And that's the point, even if it does work against what they stand for at least there standing. It's revolutionary warfare.

You've all missed the point of Anonymous... and tbh I can't quite see how... if you look at what happens in their hacktivism... at how they operate the point is obvious. You recruit kids with computers to cover your tracks. You feed them lots of crap about how they're participating in protecting free speech, standing up for oppressed people, making a stand against 'the man'. You feed them the tools (LOIC) to create a massive diversion, and then you hide behind them. Whilst they flood sites with meaningless packets you scan the sites to identify weaknesses, you run real exploits against the weaknesses you find. You try to obtain access behind into the server...

You don't really think the target selection isn't being driven by someone do you?
There's no grand committee selecting targets which fit an agenda... Mastercard never presented any threat to freedom of speech, and damned sure as hell have nothing to do with oppressing people. Paypal again never presented any threat to the freedom of speech, or provided any succor to those who oppress people...

"We're attacking Paypal because they aren't supporting Wikileaks"... hang the fuck on... Wikileaks is already in place. They don't need Paypal to provide them a funding stream... the logic is crap... it doesn't work... it's a good excuse through for flooding a company who are shit hot on online security with so much traffic that picking out the real threats is nigh on impossible...

Anonymous is a group of hardcore blackhats who have realised that in the days when every rebellious teenager has a computer and fast internet access, mass social engineering is possible and that it can be used to cover their tracks.

    Anonymous=irrelevant.

Dig all the dirt you want, expose corruption and backdoor dealings all day long...it makes no difference.
We know the who/what/why of the latest financial crisis for instance, and yet not a single player has been indicted or arraigned.
In fact, the major players behind the Wall Street crisis are making more money than before and using taxpayer money to lobby/defend themselves.
We KNOW who's guilty and should be held accountable, don't need Anon or Wikileaks to expose them.

    Doesn't matter.

Apparently, The senate is not working as the public representative, rather they are more likely acting like the board of directors of the Goldman Sachs. This is a financial terrorism against the general people of U.S and the consequences are far more wider spread. It's very disheartening to see, in a democratic country where everyone gets to speak nothing is done to fight it, probably because their very base of the finances is dependable on such pathetic system called the capitalism. If people are looking for guilty, they only need to look into the mirror. Some have made fortune at others expense, those who did, were not selected on the basis of intelligence or intellect or ability but only and only greed.

Well thought out reply since obviously nerds couldn't create the Atomic bomb or biological weapons or anything harmless like that.
