Whats Happening To My Downloads

hi all,
i've been downloading movies, games, and data from the varifieds.
firstly, some of the downloads begin by showing 0/0 under the column - 'total size' rather than eg: 0/720,526?
secondly, they start to download, and then when the download loses its conection, what has downloaded goes back to 0/0
can any one advise me if this is normal, or if not, whats happening to my downloads??? and is there a simple solution

Ive never heard of that happening before. That sounds pretty weird.
