    k i just formatted that partition....and right now im checking it with chkdsk..... now its taking time so its workin

    lets see what it says later

    just finished but it didnt give me like a summary or anything....just said "Disc Check complete"

    There should be a log file somewhere... probably in the root of the system drive - C:\
    if your font size is this small i'll add you to my ignore list because you're wasting my time, OK?

    and if i run chkdsk from dos....it makes a quick check and gives me 0 bad sectors....

    Running from DOS only does a quick check, not thorough.

    Try searching the computer for chkdsk and see if there's a log file in the same folder.

    chkdsk.exe is located in system32 folder....but no log file there....

    any other ideas?

    OK, try this:
    chkdsk E: /r

    If you put that in the Run box it'll ask you if you want to unmount the volume (because Windows is using the drive), respond N and it'll as you if you want to schedule the drive to be checked during the next boot. Respond Y and reboot.
    Do it last thing at night and leave it going cos it's gonna take a bloody long time.

    Had exactley the same problem myself, and with a western digital too, In the end i stuck it as a slave on another machine, lost the partitrion though, even when i reformatted it came up as FAT 8!!! in the end i fdisked the whole damn thing and so far its been running fine. Lesson I learnt thiough is Backup regularly oh and don't buy WD seagate barracuda is probably one of the most robust
