Yes, people "still" use public trackers. Private sites don't have everything - there's no place or method that does. Public trackers can be stellar for those files that are now very old or rare.

That is a bummer...One of my first stops when looking for music or a request to fill of some obscure flick. Will check out Kickass...

I remember when Suprnova closed in 2004. There was mass panic, since Suprnova was the biggest torrent site by far.

But things soon recovered, and Torrentspy emerged as the most popular site, until it was cut down a few years later. Then Mininova stepped up to be the #1 site, until it was forcibly castrated.

Sure, I'll miss BTjunkie, which for a half-dozen years was one of my go-to torrent sites, but there are plenty of good alternatives.

I actually think that these ongoing die-offs can in some ways be helpful, since they clear the path for newer and better sites to emerge.

It's a DDoS attack according what was posted in the "trackers down and up" thread. One of many that has taken place recently...

Any ideas how long the previous ones lasted?

Well, HDBits' attack took some days if I remember correctly, and BitMe is still down.
