Help! Windows Explorer Has Lost 'details' View

i've never seen this happen before,
i'm using win98se and use the details view mode in the windows explorer all the time to sort files by type or by date
all the other views still work but details shows me nothing, there is a scroll bar still but no items

please help i don't want to need to reinstall windoze right now
