What is a good program to edit animated gifs? I would like to preserve the good quality of them as well. I'm not just talking editing either, I'd like to be able to author my own animated .gifs as well.

Photoshop only allowes me to open one frame, and destroys the sequenced animation if saved over. I've also tried using flash, but it's a bit tough with all the action scripting and crap. I tryed Xara3d yesterday, but it seems that you can only do text and shapes there...

    Any suggestions?

if you're using photoshop (to make one from scratch), it's easier to save all your individual frames as .jpg's or .gif's in to the same folder. then open up 'image ready'>'file' menu>'import folder as frames'

then you can set up your frame times, add effects etc, then 'save optimised as' a .gif

then you can open it with 'ulead gif animator 5' (which you can get from fosi) and tweak it and add effects as i think ulead is definitely the easiest to use, has decent effects and good settings for saving optimised, and it's good to get started with
