For six grand, you could build your own LAN, with four good computers, have your mates round for parties.

Read the spec of that IBM machine carefully.

Although it has a pretty picture of a flat panel monitor, that is NOT included with the system.
The hard drive size is 36.4GB. This is not very big, so you will probably need to add another. But it may be one of the new WD 10,000 rpm Sata drives which should be v fast.
And the Graphics processor, that well known 3Dlabs Wildcat4. (It may be very good, but I've never heard of it).
    No Speakers.
    No Modem.

You haven't quoted any prices, but I'm assuming they are around the same price. If so, the Gateway machine wins hands down (but find out the actual size of the HD).

basically the same as lynx said about the IBM, its crap

but the Gateway doesn't look too good either:

    - i have a thing against Nvidia cards, they are fast but apparently not as fast as the ATI equivilent, also the extra RAM on the card does very little in improving performance

    - the machine doesn't come with RAM?

    - the machine doesn't come with CD/DVD drive?

that's a professional 3D card. if you're a professional 3D graphics designer, you'd want to buy a card like that. if you're buying a card for video games, look elsewhere because the card and its drivers are geared toward completely different tasks.

gateway=suck! i hate them and can't wait 4 them 2 die. neva buy a gateway.

they're slow, clunky, and all around crappy. when i first started this job and took over the network, all my office had were gateway's (3 years ago). back then they weren't so bad but since windows 2000 and xp has come out, their puters SUCK! I now buy Dell.

Plus, the rip u off if u ever want 2 upgrade. i would build my own or visit - Cyber Power Inc. - they have great pricing and coo cases.
