Thread: giganews since 2005, now i'm only getting "article not found" on most popular groups

  1. #1
i'm trying to get spec ops the line on pc, I'm now getting "article not found" on ANY group where the game have been posted and I do mean every group.

I've never had this issue before.

It's impossible for me to get any game from usenet using giganews, always "article not found"

Been a platinum since 2005, what's going on????

    Thanks

Giganews is very poor in 2012 in regards to takedowns (and very overpriced). Switch to a non-Highwinds provider, such as Astraweb or Blocknews.

Back in 2005 or maybe later I did try out Astraweb and usenetserver I belive they were called, my experience wasn't that great, none of them would max my speeds (I live in europe) giganews/supernews were the only ones capable at least for me giving me full bandwidth. But this was quite a few years ago, maybe I should try out astraweb again.

Blocknews sounds like a great alternative.

    Thanks for your suggestions!

    EDIT: what's a highwind provider?

All NSPs are getting more DMCA take-downs here lately, even Astraweb. If the NSP has a server located in the US, they will comply with any take-down requests.

With that said, I have been with Astraweb for years and haven't had too many issues. 99% of the time, the Astra servers max out my connection, 30Mbps (really 33Mbps). I usually get relatively new stuff so haven't been affected by the DMCA take-downs much.

Here is a pic that details resellers and such:

Who needs cloud storage when you got the NSA?

Neat chart; the number of resellers is rather mind-boggling.

Although I don't do gaming and such, I have noticed in the past couple of months the rather large increase in large (bluray) movie files, encrypted/passworded. It all seems to be coming (according to a couple of tests) from Astraweb/EU, and at the same time I see TONS of stuff (variable sizes, unknown type) being posted at GN, that don't seem to get propagated out to other usenet servers (blocked?); that's even stranger (real head scratcher).

But in reality, I have yet to see a movie post (in a very long while, maybe my tastes don't run to what may be wacked), get taken down. I'm sure there's probably something out there that does, but I simply haven't run into it.

Nice chart. Allows for the people who do removals to easily see who to send too and who they haven't gotten to yet.

Basically any that are not astraweb, giganews, supernews, blocknews or usenetnow.

Encrypted? I haven't run across this. nzbclub is one of the very best engines that shows what is passworded though.

i have a suggestion for you.

try search using short scene name via mysterbin and check every nzb via nzb download checker

PS and also u can thank all those stupid nzbmatrix -like sites where morons post nzbs of stuff with short scene titles using full titles thus maing it super easy for copyright shits to find it.

Thanks but I already tried mysterbin (great search engine) and they all come up with article not found. My subscribtion with giganews ends in a couple of days, i'm suprised they did send me a reply talking about DMC in general.

I'm gonna try out astraweb, it sucks there's no trial) and hopefully they can max my line, also gonna combine it with blocknews.

    hdjunky, thanks for the explanation!

I understand gn position or any other provider, but what's the point really to pay for a service if most popular files are removed hehehhe

    sandman_1, awesome graph, thanks!

EDIT: We do not have a trial period. However, if you are unhappy with our service for any reason, we offer a full refund if you cancel and request a refund within the first 24 hours of signup.

    ^^ that's excellent
