Thread: Who Is the best Usenet Provider?

  1. #1
Or is everyone using multiple providers (one of the big 4 or so) plus a lesser known European provider who doesn't process takedowns as quickly?

PS. How do you pay for it (since a lot of sites no longer can accept Paypal)?

My yearly sub is expiring soon so I'm also interested to hear about good alternatives to US providers since the takedowns are becoming such a PITA.

    Thanks.

Tweaknews.eu is not suffering from DMCA takedowns, but it is getting overwhelmed with new customers, so they have speed issues.
They accept credit cards, if I remember correctly.

Just reminding everyone (for the nth time) that non-US (or providers that don't maintain US-based server plants) have the down side of payment problems (and that payment processing was the major reason Newzbin(2) and the 'Matrix' ceased operations) although (for now) the aforementioned Tweaknews does advertised that it processes Visa/MC. Those (US) folks thinking of utilizing this (or chasing after others in a somewhat similar situation) to make sure that the CC you use has both the highest level of security AND (hopefully) a low rate of euros to dollars transaction fees.

Way back when (I was still working around the planet) I had a bank account with RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland), simply because I was working extensive periods of time in those areas of said planet where British banking ties went back decades if not centuries vrs. the minimal to non-existent US ones. Then RBS got into lots (I mean LOTS) of problems with both the British regulators not to mention the Euro-zone, I retired, and I consolidated my funds back to the US, so now I'm in the same boat as 'normal' folks so follow the strictures in paragraph (1) above.

If someone could suggest a good, re-loadable, card that would both give someone some 'security' yet be usable with major providers in the EU or even non-EU European providers, it'd be nice.

Tweaknews.eu does indeed have takedowns. The takedowns are slower because they operate under NL law. All major USP's are in compliance with their country's safe harbour laws.

It's quite a long time before the takedowns come into play. With the us providers sometimes you only have minutes with automated takedowns. Payments are always sketchy, with tweak the MasterCard payment uses securecode which adds secondary authentication, like PayPal.

This. They're still under the purview of BREIN. I'd guess any country that's a Berne Convention signatory can take shit down. Having said that, despite their growing pains a block acct with them could be prudent.

How bad are the speed issues with Tweaknews?

Like 10Mbit/sec bad? Or 2Mbit/sec (or less) bad?

I will use a disposable credit card (service that my BoA CC offers) so I'm not that worried about the security of the card.

I'm on a trial right now. Sick of the takedowns on newsdemon.
On tweaknews the speed seems to be jumping around, something 5mbps, sometimes it jumps up to my max 20mbps.
