Have you ever given Start8 a try? I've been making that recommendation to gripers. I am not one of those gripers, for I plan to continue avoid the OS.Originally Posted by anon
I used Ex7ForW8; combined with a few other programs than turn off 8's "enhancements", I was able to get the old interface I know and love.

It was the first solution I tried and it was OK, but with Ex7 you don't need to run an extra service and don't see the Start screen for half a second when the OS boots up (which means a cheap workaround is used to automatically show the desktop).
