I'm building a new PC... is 1 gig of DDram enough, or should I get more?

Also, what should I get on my Motherboard? How many AGP ports, how many PCI slots? AGP 8X is the standard as well right?

1 gig of ram is plenty, what speed is it?
and most mobo's have 1 agp, and 5 pci
i wouldn't get anything with less then that, it HAS to have agp though, make sure it has an agp if you want decent gfx card
    and 8x is good

It sounds like you are on the right track. If you get a good mobo with built in stuff like sound and lan and all that, you wont need any PCI slots really. I have 5 PCI and 1AGP and I dont use any of the PCI. 8X is good. 512MB of ram is really plenty, but if you want 1gig then go for it

agreed, but PCI slots are always handy to have, i have a soundcard and firewire in pci, so 3 pci would do fine, but most come with 5 nowadays anyway, mine has 5 pci and 1 agp
I have the NF7-S, very nice

@Vamp, did you have a mobo in mind? or are you still looking around?

    Vamp,
    1GB should be plenty.
If you are planning on running XP I think 512 would be the minimum, (yes, I know that MS says 256 will do...) but there are several advantages to using one gig.

You can force your kernel to stay in memory and completely get rid of the page file which will speed things up a bit.

What if I got Windows 98 instead of XP, would 1 gig of ram perform even better?

    No.

Your computer would be using too much of the RAM laughing at you.
