Thread: Need help extracting

  1. #1

    Urgent

So, I grabbed an NZB off this place.
I downloaded all the files and they came in all these weird files with the extension .10.

WinRAR won't extract them properly, and I don't want to have to download another 8GB worth of files.
    Please help.

    I downloaded this: https://filesharingtalk.com/nzbs/game...s-DLC-RELOADED

Open the par2 files with quickpar or multipar and rename them. After that you should be able to extract with winrar.

You'll want to open the par2 file with quickpars.

    Here is step by step.

    1. Open quickpar and click 'open' button at the bottom. (picture above)

    2. Select the first par2 file or the only par2 file listed. (picture above)

    3. It should auto check the release and than you will have the "rename" option. Click on that button, repair if needed and than open the archive. (picture above)

If you have any questions, let me know.

That is stupid. Alt.Binz 0.39.13 does this on its own.

    Ah, thanks a lot!
    To both of you!

Is it necessary that I download ALL of the PAR2 files (they're quite big), or can I just download one?

Alt.Binz 0.39.13 can fail when the encoded header is deliberately misnamed. The obfuscated files are tested using the latest version of Sabnzbd and may not work properly on other news readers.

You should get all the pars when trying to repair the files.

But am I trying to repair the files?
Aren't I just trying to rename?

But if so, I'll grab all of them.

That is what Alt.Binz 0.39.14 is for.

You shouldn't need all of the par files. Only the first one, that will still let you rename.

You'll need all of the pars only if there are missing blocks.

This is all (probably) a good reason why 'auto-processing' by routines 'built-in' to usenet downloaders is 'usually' a bad idea, as 'schemes' to 'hide' things (like using the 'auto-rename' function in quickpar/multipar) gives fits to both those 'do it all' downloader programs and folks trying to use them 'properly'.

Basically, stay with the 'manual' methodology and things will 'work out' a bit more straightforward-wise, as folks have pointed out here.
