TigerDirect now takes bitcoins (if you're in the USA). It's very likely that Newegg is going to start taking them very soon. $10K bitcoin when?

I find it hard to believe that anyone would use the internet for criminal activity.

While I find the inflation of the "coin" dubious, I find the reasoning behind attacking it (disrupting the powers that be) more than a bit disturbing, as well...

Several lawmakers have called for increased regulation of Bitcoin in light of the currency's heightened privacy, given that they can be traded without using names and are difficult to trace to an individuals.
Buying things that aren't tracked? Who would ever think of such a thing?

There is rapidly declining money in mining (to the point that it may not be possible at all to recoup dollar value on mining equipment any longer) and Bitcoin is not a good medium of exchange as it is naturally deflationary. The problems that will occur with Bitcoin are very similar to the problems that affected the Capitol Hill Babysitting Co-op - deflationary pressure and no new infusion of currency = hoarding = minimal to no value as a medium of exchange.

I'm still kind of confused about this. If it's a currency that is used in real world transactions (through a networked medium) what the fuck is all this business about "mining". I'm going to Google now, but I'll probably give up in less than 30 s.
