Thread: Rapid Usenet Take downs. Is it just me or everyone?

  1. #1
Hi I use newsdemon as my primary server and newsgroupdirect as my backup. I have noticed that in the last few months any popular movie (Star Trek into Darkness, Man of Steel etc.) get taken down within hours of being put up. The index site I use is Smackdownonyou. I have wondering if this true for people using other servers or index sites as well? Are there any other alternatives to getting files that get taken down so fast? Thanks.

you are using the same exact server for your main as well as your backup server. lol not only that but they are shitty servers to begin with. signup with anyone except astraweb or any highwinds servers and you will be okay.

Then again, if the posters of those items don't even use the most basic (and I mean BASIC) forms of title obfuscation, ANY server they are posted to (originally) or that get propagated to, will get whacked, not just those you mention.

Then again, as I have reminded folks here (and will continue), that I've used Astra to post things for well over 10+ years, and well over 1.5TB/month during that period, and have NEVER (repeat: NEVER) had a posting DMCA'd. ZERO. NADA.

So, if posters, at this late date, don't watch their postings, don't do 'due diligence', and don't take the most BASIC of means to obfuscate, then they deserve to get whacked. Period.

By the same unerring logic then ever child who wanders into the street deserves to get hit by a car.

And unless this happens in a socialist state, the driver cannot be cited, sued, or otherwise harassed for legally driving that street; but their parents may be sued (by that driver) for causing mental distress.

I'm going to have to go with the obvious and say that "at fault" and "deserve" are two different things entirely.

If you have trouble with that I will happily list real world examples until your head screws back into it's proper position.

If there a better site to find nzb files than smackdownonyou...or is it my server that's the problem then. Cause all copies of Man of Steel, Star Trek and other popular movies are non existent sometimes within hours of them being posted.

Haha didn't know that. One is my account and one is a friend's. I guess there is a reason they are so cheap. I got mine at $6 monthly for Christmas special. It had been pretty good up until last 2 months, I notice any blockbuster movie release gets taken down pretty fast. Which highwind resellers do you recc'd?

Any website that lists things 'in the open' (which is all except binary indexers like Binsearch or nzbindex) is usually a dead giveaway to take-down city. Again, if the posters are doing due diligence (which obviously they are not), they are probably counting on folks using some automated methodology that grabs the posting faster than the take-downs occur.

This is known as 'mutually assured destruction'.

Forget about websites (pay or otherwise), I'm sure that probably there are encrypted (filename and binary wise) that are out there somewhere (almost guaranteed). But I'd go to the indexers first and run NZBcc to see if they 'exist' still. And also do a bit of learning the 'common' ways of title obfuscation and run that through the indexers.

Lastly, don't expect that 'new' releases are going to exist out in the open for very long, if they are posted without any protection. Wait a month, or two. Folks (the take-downers) get lazy.

You've already been told that you use the same 'plant' for main and fills; you probably need to get a real fills account (one of the most popular is Blocknews). Posted things get propagated pretty fast, faster than the take-downers work, and there are so many servers out there that they can't whack them all, all that fast.

But the best (two) things is filename obfuscation, or simply wait a bit. If you're in more of a hurry, then why aren't you either renting or buying the thing...

And oh... 'Man of Steel' hasn't been released (in the US) yet, so is probably pretty high on the take-down list. The only source is going to be someone who has a pre-release copy, or a low-quality 'cam' version.

Instead of spending let's say $15 a month on a server and backup, how about $9 for a Dutch server and $6 for a seedbox? This is what's on one 3D torrent site right now.

I have to disagree respectfully.. They don't .
They just use custom modified nzedb or newznab indexers which are quite capable (especially the first one if you use specific scripts) to take down successfully even some obfuscated releases and eat for breakfast openly uploaded ones.

PS Man of steel quality was fine=) but the movie itself was meh. usual superhero crap.
