Besides the fact that much of horror is basically derived from not being able to determine the outcome of a situation,I would suggest that since both the current take on horror movies and video games are targeted directly at the same demographic,your conclusion doesn't make a lot of sense.
Regrettably,people seem to forget that 99% of what makes up a goodanythingscare is the anticipation/buildup to the act (see something like Jaws) and not just a bunch of ludicrously unrealistic CGI bouncing around on screen.
Even someone like Guillermo del Toro who knows a thing or two about horror sometimes forget that and let everything go to fuck with something like Don't Be Afraid of the Dark.
If you begin at the summit then there's no place left to go but down and there is nothing more terrifying than the imagination.
