Thread: Bittorrent Behind Router?

  1. #1
Is there a difference between using Bittorrent with a straight cable internet connection and using Bittorrent behind a router? After starting to use a router, I've noticed my speedings being at or below 0 kb/s. Is it a coincidence, or is it the router?

    Thanks

open ports 6881-6889 in your routers setup page
    http://userpages.umbc.edu/~hamilton/btclientconfig.html

http://192.168.1.1 http://192.168.1.0 one of those is your routers setup page, goto port fowarding and open thoses ports, make sure you know your computers ip

It seems to be working like you said...
but when I'm not exactly sure what username/pass its asking for to get to the setup. I never had to enter any of these when I installed the router (would there be a default user/pass in the manual?)

    Thanks for helping out!

    Yes,
    linksys...
Thanks, it worked. Now to setup the ports...
    And watch the speeds fly!
It looks like it worked, thanks a lot!
One more thing, is there any settings I can change in ZoneAlarm to increase my speeds anymore? I know this was mentioned in that guide you linked me too, but I couldn't find what it was talking about (meaning I couldn't find a place to setup those ports). So do you know where I can set this up?

    Thanks!

yea, thats just how the firewall works it will slow you down alittle, but its worth the security, you do need to import the bad ip list into it, that was done for us by third genation noob

Yeah, security is always a plus.
Thanks for all your help, I'm now hitting a steady +150 kb/s.

    Take it easy,
