You'll need to get someone with an administrator account to uninstall it.

I'm guessing you were logged into someone elses account when you installed NIS, then, when you restarted your system, you had to log into your own (limited) account.

    hi
    its my PC

i have 1 account on win xp which is my name and IS a computer administrator account, there is also the ADMIN account which is also COMP ADMIN set! NIS was installed on my XP account and my PC always starts in that account!

its weird, i always have problems which symantec programs but i still install them to try them out

ive tried starting in SAFE MODE and uninstallin but that was no good

am i totally screwed or can i uninstall it another way?

    thanks

If your running XP , try to do a system restore. that will roll back your PC to a point in the past.

It does not work that well though, thats why i install Goback 3 Deluxe

Hello mate. Looks like you're going to have to manually uninstall, this seems to be a common task for those uninstalling Norton. I found you this link

What didnt you like about it , i have 2003 and i love it, i wont go back to Zone Alarm.

Install 2003 over it (Nortons may uninstall 2004 automatically so it can install 2003). but if it does not , and you dont like 2003 . maybe 2003 will uninstall

Run the NIS2004Pro installation/set-up files (or CD) again and this time choose to uninstall everything when prompted. You cannot simply just uninstall a Symantec product from the "add or remove programs" applet.

I have a slightly different problem with NIS2004Pro... I screwed up the install by forgetting to disconnect my network cable. The program was able to connect with Symantec's servers, and I was told that I had an invalid key (A8key error, whatever that is). I thought it would be a simple matter of completely uninstalling NIS and reinstalling, this time remembering to disconnect the network cable. Well, it hasn't been that simple... I'm still getting the A8key error and being told that my key is invalid. I've tried EVERYTHING! I've gone over the registries with regcleaner and come up with nothing. Symantec loaded a file somewhere on my freaking PC and I can't find it! I tried doing an XP system restore to the day before I installed NIS to see if that would work and it crapped out. It told me it could not restore. I went back about a week and nothing.

Any suggestions? How can I find this hidden file and get rid of it?

You should have been given the option to "go back and double check/verify the installation key" directly after receiving the error message. This option takes you back and allows to input another code generated at random from TMG's keygen.

I had the same thing happen to me on my first install.
