    Question Mark

Hey there guys & gals, is anyone into original Wii homebrew? I was wondering, what all do I need to play original Wii backups/ISOs? I assume some custom firmware, but which one? And are there "loaders" for it like there used to be for PSP, etc?

I have an original Wii in the closet that hasn't been turned on in ages, I'm not sure what firmware version it's running (it'll be ancient, whatever ver. it is). I'd like to hook it up and download some games for the youngsters to play, but I'm kinda hesitant to turn it on before I know what exactly I'm doing (in case it tries to auto-update the system firmware or something of the sort).

Thanks in advance, any info would be appreciated.

Grab letter bomb if on 4.3 or banner bomb if earlier (wiibrew.org). That will install twiizers boot2 loader and the homebrew channel. Do a memory backup at this point if you have an old Wii that allows boot2 install.... you are then "brick proof" and can restore if things go wrong later.

Now google for USB loader GX (and the channel launcher - on same locale) and also "pimp my wii". Put those on your SD card... via homebrew channel launch and "Pimp it", this will add all those extra backup loading slots required

Grab yourself a 64Gb+ stick for pennies and just transfer any games/iso images to the it using USBLoader (from Disc) or Windoz via a normal copy (USB should be a normal NTFS formatted stick). Then enjoy no more discs, really fast loading and able to use them Wii backup images

Hope that helps, been a while since I did this last

Thanks Gribley! Much appreciated. I'll look into doing it this weekend for sure. Would you mind if I sent you a PM if I have questions?
(I'm sure there are tutorials for letter/banner bomb and boot2loader that will explain things in detail, but it's always good to have someone who has actually gone through the process already available should anything come up that I can't troubleshoot on my own)

No expert but done it a few times so if you need a helping hand then I`ll try. Really if you get to installing the hackmii from SD card (which is the letter/banner bomb part) then you are already there. There is some buggering around with a few titles that may need a particular hacked IOS but that is down to just selection in the USB Loader config for each app (and only when needed).

I took my Wii to a guy to have a mod chip put into it.... At the time they said it was more stable and the games never crashed (cost me $150 with the chip at the time or something like that)...And it was undetectable when you went online for updates and stuff, with the soft mods you had to be more careful, and delete or disable parts of the soft mod...
I would think there is a guy in every part of the world that still does it...
I use to have all the links saved on my PC for the better mod chips, if i can find them i will post them up....
But like i said i never used the soft mod way but i guess you can google it and tons of sites should come up..
And i have hundreds of games, but most of them were really shit!! , but what was really nice is it only used a standard DVD disk and there was only the odd few games that needed a dual layer...
And if you have any sort of heart or breathing issues... Take it slow and let the kids burn themselves out, while you take the odd rest on the couch
And i really would recommend you use the straps that come with the controllers

    Good luck

I did also fit a £30 mod in-line chip on mine too but then found the low level hack is not required really (good if you want to burn discs and play back on an unmodified box, but they also added some checksum thing to discs later on so break it anyway)

Softmod works fantastic, there is no down side and as long as you`ve got that boot2 NAND backup then you can play as much as you like without a problem (however don`t do a 4.3 update as that wipes out the loader and you have to re-letter bomb it to get it back)

Preloader etc are extra things to play with once happy to get rid of safety warnings etc.

    Gribley...

But i if i remember you had to update your console to play that new Mario game that came out and you could only do it with the mod chip not the soft mod.. They did have a work around but it kept crashing on the soft mod...
And lets be real here... If you can't play the Mario games properly, what the hell do you need a Wii for
Like i said, you can count on your hands how many games that were even worth to buy if you had too..
And i still have every Nintendo console made, working and original boxes, and i am talking that stupid robot and duck-hunt single cartridge and the Fancy Gold Zelda cartridge ..
It was nice when they finally went to CD games instead of cartridges(or that stupid small disk)..You at least now have some money left over to purchase more important things, like Porn
