So I found my way to vanilla kazaa and typed in some shit like "lesbian porn" (being day 1 of being a n00b) and downloaded an amature 3 minute clip of three not very attractive women on a kitchen floor, squirting on each other - jackpot! For the film, I downloaded what I thought was the first Resident Evil film - took forever to download and turned out to just be the films soundtrack
Then I went from kazaa to klite to torrents, never moved past them. Never looked into usenet or streaming
I'm into VMs though with MAC spoofing, proxy/vpn etc but I haven't bothered to download a film in such a long time, I don't even keep up with what's coming out. I pay for netflix and Sky Nowtv and the stuff I do torrent is TV stuff I could watch anyway just without all the bullshit commercials and the day before it airs
If there's a pc game I want I just buy it through steam, occasionally I'll torrent it first to make sure my machine will run it but if the game has online stuffs then I'll happily pay for it
Lets dissect this shall we. I didn't know P4 came in 266mhz proc (they don't it was P2). Hell back then AOL was USA's biggest ISP lol I remember every street outside had AOL CD laying around in NYC connect 48k/52k bps on 1free months trial and 3months can't candle for shit accounts? I had endless supplies for phish since didn't want to pay for it, this was well before local Teleco started to deploy DSL Lite (256kbps links). Now since you said KaZaA (never was fond of fasttrack but I did setup system to run as supernode) i'm guessing it was near 2000 (16 then 32-33 now?) since before that it was Aimster, Madster and then Grokster and of course Napster. Have you ever used Gnutella network back then? Or AOL Chat Scene's file distributions like XDCC bots which emailed split files under 3mb?
The first movie I ever downloaded over 56k was the shawshank redemption as it took about a week (oh shit I just hit 5.4kB/s god damn it back to 4.9kB-5kB/s as usual). Back then bandwidth wasn't commodity (still not now but...) so if you wanted something you had to make sure its what you wanted as song took 30mins to download each with standard 30min for 192kbps. I love RE I remember playing RE2 all night as no school while dad/uncle played chess all night lol oh the good times in JrHi@NYC. I can't wait for the last RE movie which will be coming out.
