i got 1000$ or less to spend on a laptop and since i'll be selling my compaq presario 6016us it has to be better that the desktop.

I think you'll have problems finding a decent laptop for under $1000 though.

i want to get a desktop replacment laptop because im going to be doing some long (8 hours pluss) train rides over the next couple of years and want to know how much i could probobally get for a compaq 6016us desktop:

you should buy AT LEAST 3 extra batterys and that will add a lot.

also, what will you be using it for? word processing,internet,email,games?

well its amtrak and they have outlets but i would like it to be close to comprable to the compaq 6016us but i do school work play games right now im ok with games hardly and lag or slow down

having that one comparable to your old compaq would cost at least 1300

Gateway and Dell both have sub 900 Dollar notebooks, but there, well, bargain notebooks.

Im pretty sure any notebook under 1000 dollar is going to be running less then 40GB hard drive, At the most 256MB And I doubt there will be any that ARNT running an intel celeron.
