You know, I've been thinking about that, and I am not sure I agree completely. As long as it is ensured that everyone gets a standard/minimum that they need, who cares if someone else can buy a little extra. I think if someone has the money to pay for extra service, that is ok. But paying to get faster service is NOT ok. Unfortunately it is very hard to have a universal healthcare system when you have a large population that is unhealthy (Canada and UK finding that out). A big reason why the ACA costs a lot (and republicans have done everything in their power to make it fail). I think a Medicare-For-All system could work, if done right. Unfortunately there is too much fraud/corruption occurring currently (no real oversight going on, $$$). Get rid of all the health insurance companies and use that money to help fund healthcare and police the system. Pass a law to stop advertising of all drugs (prescription and OTC). Fix the patent system so big pharma can't cheat anymore. Many more things could be done to make healthcare affordable and efficient. Need to take profit out of the equation.

The same here in Canada, if you can't afford drugs here, there is other avenues to get meds paid for, be it actual drug companies or charity organizations, and of course Government subsidies.. Do you not have Medicate in the US??

True story, how stupid is this!!!, for you to get a gastric bypass here, you have to be over 600 pounds, or have a heart issue!!, but then we won't talk about the wait list even if you do qualify for the surgery!!!! my brother was just under that and they wouldn't cover it, so he paid for a laparoscopic Band surgery, that was a big mistake!!! Fucked him up worse!!, but anyways I knew a few people that went across the border and got the bypass surgery done, and yes it was not cheap, but they paid monthly and got it done, it was life saving for them!!!..
Our system here is good and bad, again how they are going to implement it in the US if it ever happens in my lifetime will be very interesting...
